Win a place on Royal Academy’s weekend course: The Art of Collecting

2 May 2017

What makes celebrated collections great? What are the step-by-step approaches to building and maintaining an art collection? To discover this and more, enter our competition to win a place on this fascinating course, kindly offered-up by our member gallery, Royal Academy of Arts.

About ‘The art of collecting: individual and corporate collections’

Led by Charlotte Appleyard, author of 'Corporate Art Collections: A Handbook to Corporate Buying' and Director of Development at the RA, the course will stress that building and maintain a successful collection – be it private, corporate or institutional –- is not just a matter of luck, but relies on skills and strategy.

Although made up of individual items, a successful collection has the potential to become greater than the sum of its parts. This two-day course is a chance to gain a practical overview of collecting from specialists in their field, as Charlotte Appleyard, together with guest speakers, introduces the history of art collecting, the varying approaches of master collectors and the practical techniques that can enable a successful collection to stand the test of time.

To be in with a chance of winning, answer the following question:

In 1771, before it took up residence in Piccadilly, where was the Royal Academy based?

  • Somerset House
  • Battersea Power Station
  • The Royal Exchange
