Made in the Middle
15 Feb 2012

At mac birmingham until 15 April 2012 and on tour until July 13 2013
Made in the Middle is a CraftSpace initiative and the principal craft selling show for the Midlands, produced every three years. For the first time it has been extended to include makers affiliated to the East Midlands as well as those in the West Midlands.
Showcasing the best of recent contemporary craft, Made in the Middle also tours with Shop in the Middle which offers a range of smaller, more affordable items available purchase and take away. The show is a real opportunity for regional and national collectors to acquire excellent work and visitors are also encouraged to consider commissioning new work from local makers.
The exhibition will tour to major galleries across the Midlands for a period of 18 months, including Own Art members mac birmingham, The National Centre for Craft & Design, Shire Hall Gallery and Bilston Craft Gallery. Own Art will be available to use to purchase work at these venues and through CultureLabel.com
27 makers have been especially selected for the exhibition by a panel of curators and craft sector specialists.
Selected exhibitors include pioneering textile artist Amy Twigger Holroyd who is developing a technique called ‘stitch hacking’ while Jannette Matthews explores the potential of laser cutting in developing 3D textiles. Stunning ceramic pieces by James and Tilla Waters will be available for sale alongside work by Anna Collette Hunt. Beautiful vessels by Kevin Grey and Imogen Luddy’s stainless steel laser cut furniture will demonstrate the possibilities available to makers working in metal.
Made in the Middle is a partnership between Craftspace and mac birmingham in collaboration with The National Centre for Craft & Design.
