As we’ve just left our Scotland part of our virtual road trip, let’s begin our North East adventure from the top: Dockside Gallery. Situated on the famous Lowry Trail, Dockside Gallery offers an ever-changing exhibition of uplifting, accessible artworks in a calm and open space. Artists are specially chosen for the quality and originality of their work, offering customers a fine selection of original paintings, prints, ceramics and contemporary handcrafted jewellery.

Just under 45 minutes drive south is the Northumberland Coast AONB, where we can take in the beautiful views on foot. These Northumberland landscapes have inspired the beautiful artworks for sale at The Old School Gallery and Fenwick Gallery, located just minutes from the beach. Browse the paintings, prints and ceramics and collect a piece of artwork to remind you of our time on this wonderful shoreline journey.

Pop back in the car and belt up, we have a comfortable 45-minute journey to our galleries in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The Aviary Art Ltd offers beautiful imagery from a collection of artists and photographer both online and in-store. The Hancock Gallery houses an extensive range of contemporary artwork from the UK and beyond, and Gallagher and Turner have forty years’ experience of bespoke picture framing in Newcastle, Gateshead and the wider North East UK. Slap bang in the city centre is the North East Art Collective, where you can meander through rooms and rooms of carefully selected artworks from wall to ceiling.

I think it’s time for a pit stop and we know the perfect place for it: The Biscuit Factory! Not only do they offer Own Art on their collection of wonderful art and crafts, but they also have an all-day independent cafe with an absolutely delicious menu (we’ve had the grilled cheese sandwich and it was out of this world!). After lunch, we can visit Northern Print‘s studio, gallery and education space all dedicated to printmaking and located in Newcastle’s cultural quarter of Ouseburn. Only a quick drive away is our last stop in Newcastle, which is the Baltic Centre for Art. We can casually peruse the many floors and exhibitions they have in store, before heading to their fabulous gift shop where we can use Own Art for their limited edition artworks.

Our next gallery on the road is Pineapple Gallery, situated in the heart of Bishop Auckland, the Pineapple Gallery was founded in 2016 by Gallerist Tom Gibbons and in 2020 was awarded the Prestige Art Gallery of the Year for the North of England.

We’re heading to Darlington, so we should change up our transportation method to steam locomotive! The Stockton and Darlington Railway was opened on September 27th 1825 and marked a very significant step in the development of railways. Just a 20 minute walk away from the Head of Steam Railway Museum is Own Art gallery Gallerina, where we can basket some of our favourite art pieces, pay monthly and interest-free before getting back on the road to our final destination on our North East road trip!

Welcome to the wonderful coastal town of Hartlepool, home to our final Own Art gallery stop off on our tour! Hartlepool Art Gallery is at the heart of the cultural life of Hartlepool. With exhibitions of international, national and regional artists and a programme of events and learning throughout the year, the Gallery is a welcome home for inspiration and learning. What a perfect place to end our North East journey, just a short 15 minute walk away from the marina. Enjoy the views and own the art you fall in love with!

Our next stop will be East Midlands, so get in touch to give us your travel tips!
