by The Corn Hall | Diss
Date of event: 21/05/21 - 01/01/70
A Celebration of Weave is a collaborative show exploring woven textiles from local textile artists at designermakers21 and 5 recent Norwich University of the Arts graduates. The exhibition explores weave in different forms, taking a traditional craft and giving it a contemporary twist.
From 21 May.
We see woven structures in 3D and 2D forms, manipulating the way fabric is created and pushing the boundaries of what can be produced on the loom. Colour, pattern and shape is an integral part of weaving and the different artists use these elements to create unique artworks.
The exploration of traditional materials like cotton, wool and linen are often combined with diverse materials such as concrete and paper to explore different woven structures across an array of hand and digital looms.
There is a story behind each artist’s work with a range of focuses such a sustainability, exploring how a fabric is created and the idea of drawing within a fabric.
The exhibition features work by Kim Morgan, Rebecca Hiscock, Rosie-May Greenbank, Lizzie Kimbley, Jenny Ross-Nevin, Meg Stavaru and Chloe Scott.
Margo Selby's exhibition Aperture will also be on display in the Corn Hall Lower Gallery.
Part of Textiles in Action, a day of FREE talks and demonstrations covering a range of constructed textiles and focusing on weave.
