The Butterworth Gallery, a family-run Scottish fine art gallery in Aberdeenshire, is delighted to announce its current online exhibition. To celebrate the return of the Tall Ships to Aberdeen this Summer, the gallery has curated a stunning collection of original maritime works by the renowned landscape artist Howard Butterworth exploring the captivating beauty of Scotland’s coastlines, harbours, and seascapes.
The exhibition includes original artwork from Howard’s extensive archive featuring not only the Tall Ships, but also Scottish fishing boats, picturesque harbours, and fresh seascapes from across Scotland and even Spain. Howard Butterworth has spent decades capturing the atmospheric light and ever-changing moods of Scotland’s diverse landscapes painting ‘en plein air’. These paintings offer a unique glimpse into his love of boats, a deep connection to the coast and his remarkable skill at bringing maritime life to the canvas.

The exhibition is available to view online, with bespoke digital viewings of the works offered upon request with Sarah. Paintings can be reserved online, purchases are also available through the Own Art scheme. A digital viewing provides an excellent opportunity to gain a better sense of a painting. During these sessions, viewers can ask questions and experience the artwork in a more interactive way than through a static image. Different angles, wall positioning, and close-up details are shown, helping customers to visualise how the piece might look in their own home.
