The Unlikely Clan: MODERN MYTHS

by The Glasgow Gallery | Glasgow
Date of event: 13/09/25 - 11/10/25

Step into Modern Myths, the third major exhibition by artists rooted in Glasgow: Todd Garner, Cherylene Dyer, Frank McNab, Jane Gardiner, and Nichol Wheatley. United by friendship and a passion for storytelling through paint, The Unlikely Clan brings mythology to life – from the quiet magic of Scotland’s coasts to the bustling streets of Glasgow, from legendary beasts to reimagined heroines.

Each artist offers a unique vision: Todd Garner uncovers hidden stories in everyday life with his retro-romantic, cinematic scenes; Cherylene Dyer evokes emotion and resilience through intimate, layered paintings; Frank McNab transforms cityscapes and landscapes into surreal, allegorical worlds; Jane Gardiner captures the timeless presence of people at the water’s edge, blurring memory and myth; and Nichol Wheatley explores fantastical narratives and legendary creatures in intimate oil paintings.

Modern Myths is rich in figurative work, blending imagination and folklore to create a truly immersive experience. Glasgow becomes a site of wonder, familiar corners are transformed, and stories unfold at every turn inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and discover.

All works are available to collect, offering an opportunity to bring a piece of contemporary myth into your own space. Whether drawn to the poetic, the mysterious, or the deeply personal, visitors will find captivating works that speak to the imagination and the heart!

Since 2020, The Unlikely Clan has gathered to exchange ideas, inspire each other, and nurture their collective creativity. Modern Myths celebrates that spirit of collaboration, presenting an unforgettable journey through story, memory, and the magic hidden in everyday life.

Don’t miss this extraordinary exhibition, running until 11 October. Come, explore, and take a piece of the myth home with you.
