EDGE OF THE KNOWN
EDGE OF THE KNOWN brings together a group of artists whose practices are rooted in the shifting boundary where land meets water. Through painting and print, each artist explores the physical and emotional resonance of coastlines, islands and inland waters, capturing spaces that are at once familiar and quietly otherworldly.
At the centre of the exhibition, Connie Liebschner’s new body of work introduces a brighter, more surreal interpretation of these environments. Her layered compositions consider water not only as a reflective surface, but as a mysterious presence that exists between the visible and the unknown.
Across the exhibition, Julie Smith, Kerry Souter and Carol Nunan each offer distinct yet harmonious responses to the Scottish landscape. Their works draw on personal histories, material processes and a deep sensitivity to place. Through textured surfaces, layered mark making and intuitive techniques, they echo the natural rhythms of erosion, light and time.
Together, the artists present landscapes that feel both immediate and ancient. There is a rawness and honesty in their work, where fragments of history, memory and environment surface through each layer. Edge of the known invites the viewer to pause within these in-between spaces, where solidity gives way to fluidity, and the past quietly informs the present.
