Calum McClure | Laguna
Calum McClure presents a new series of paintings and monotypes inspired by Venice and its lagoon, Laguna. Developed over four years of repeated journeys by train from northern Italy, the works reflect the shifting atmosphere of the city across seasons and states of mind. Water, reflection and movement recur throughout, rendered through McClure’s instinctive, abstract language.
Venice emerges as a place where time appears to distort, suspended within the lagoon and accelerated on departure. Throughout the exhibition, traces of the natural world interrupt the city’s historic splendour, creating a poignant tension between memory, beauty and uncertainty.
