Angela Morris-Winmill: A Gilded World
The solo exhibition features the work of Angela Morris-Winmill an Australian artist renowned for her intricate and evocative artworks. This exhibition showcases her latest series of locations and iconic landmarks from around the globe, such as London, New York, Budapest, Singapore, Venice and many more. Angela masterfully juxtaposes the vibrancy of contemporary screen prints with the timeless elegance of antique maps. These unique hand pulled prints are embellished with gold leaf, filling in the wears and tears that come with a lifetime of use to guide the audience’s eye towards the hidden beauty a historic map holds.
The artist is inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where gold is used to fill- in and reassemble broken pottery. This process treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, ultimately making it more valuable and arguably more beautiful, rather than something to disguise. When dusted with gold, they become a beautiful part of history, a journey through life.
With numerous sell-out solo exhibitions under her belt, she is excited to embark on an exhibition that celebrates not only her adopted home, London, but also her native Australia and the many stepping stones between the two. Angela has enjoyed great success across her career, ranging from high street fashion design to bridal couture and the world of fine art. She possesses a remarkable ability to transform everyday objects into captivating works of art, imbuing them with new life and purpose. In recent years, Angela has achieved enormous success at numerous art fairs throughout the UK, where her silkscreens on antique maps have captivated audiences and solidified her reputation as a visionary artist.
