Situated in the heart of the picturesque Welsh Marches Market Town of Hay-on-Wye , Hawthorn began life as the personal studio and permanent exhibition space of Welsh Contemporary Landscape Artist Barry Martin-Andrews . Over time, Hawthorn has gently evolved from a single artist’s studio into a Contemporary Art Gallery that now celebrates a much wider creative community . The gallery now welcomes a growing number of artists and makers from Wales and across the UK , creating a space where different practices sit comfortably alongside one another . The collections and exhibitions reflect that spirit of openness and exchange of ideas . . . bringing together ceramics & pottery , sculpture & woodwork , glass , textiles & fabrics and contemporary handmade jewellery in a rich and varied showcase .
