Own Art On The Road | North West

We’re still on the road and have been touring the UK’s finest Own Art galleries along the way. So far we’ve visited the South West, London and the East of England! Our next stop after this will be Northern Ireland, so please get in touch with your top spot suggestions for us to feature!

HAVE WE MISSED ANYTHING EN ROUTE?

We’re going to start our virtual road trip with Watergate Street Art and our new members at Dogtooth Galleries, the most Southern galleries of the North West region and both offering our affordable, interest-free payment option. Located in Chester and just a short walk from the beautiful Chester Cathedral, where we can take in the wonderful architecture whilst we think over which artworks we want to buy.

From here, we can journey North towards Liverpool, where we can pop by Chester Zoo and give a virtual wave to the elephants! 🐘

One of our members is the Liverpool Biennial, who have just announced new dates for our 11th edition: The Stomach and the Port. Postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the edition will now run from 20 March – 6 June 2021, with previews held on 18 and 19 March. There’s plenty of things we can do whilst we wait; we can pop over to the Botanical Garden and have a dance, or head over to the Liverpool Cathedral to take in the view. The award-winning Beatles Story is about 10 minutes away, we can swing by and take an incredible immersive journey about the Liverpudlian lads before browsing the artworks on sale at Own Art Gallery, Bluecoat Display Centre.

Let’s pop back in the virtual car because Manchester is only about an hour away! We could be wandering the Northern Quarter or perusing the weird and wonderful at Affleck’s. In the midst of these wonderful venues is a selection of Own Art galleries, where you can spread the cost interest-free for the art and craft you love: Manchester Art Gallery, Generation Gallery, Salford Museum and Art Gallery, and Contemporary 6. In fact, Contemporary 6 has some brilliant recommendations for our road trip:

“We recommend you take a trip to our friends at @SaulHayFineArt who is currently hosting a great sculpture exhibition. @CastlefieldGall are thankfully open again on 16th of this month. It is always worth a visit to @CFCCA_UK and @WhitworthArt. Also, coffee at @hamptonandvouis!”

“And of course, there is always us! We have a mix of brand new work from lots of our artists, and the Gallery looks great. (Plus, we have Tunnocks Caramel Wafers, so…) Come and say hi!”

Who wants to pop over to the Peak District National Park to burn off all those caramel wafers? Millyard Gallery is located at the northern point of the park so we can swing by there if you haven’t had your fill of affordable artwork yet!

We can continue this trek up North and try out the three peak challenge at Lake District National Park – so that’s Scaffel Pike, Helvellyn and Skiddaw. Don’t worry, we can relax at one of the neighbouring Own Art galleries. The Shop Floor Project is just south of the park, Old Courthouse Gallery is slap bang in the middle and Beckstones Art Gallery is located at the top!

What a wonderful tour we’ve had of the North West of England. Let’s hope back in the car and strap in our virtual seat belts and head towards our next location: Northern Ireland!

Our next stop will be Northern Ireland, so get in touch to give us your travel tips!
