Tales from the Sailors Arms
To begin at the beginning:
This is a concept exhibition based around the Dylan Thomas play, Under Milk Wood.
Under Milk Wood lies the small fishing town of Llareggub, which is pretty much a lunatic asylum. The characters are imagined and described with cartoon-like intensity. Words form visual images. The whole play is seen through the eyes of the dead, and in particular Captain Cat who is blind. He is called Captain Cat because he can see in the dark. It’s the absurdity of the play that makes it so appealing. The language of Dylan Thomas truly fires the imagination. You can see the characters yourself.
