‘Home’ elicits a stunning response from artists!

A panoply of artistic delights have descended!!! Landing at Cupola Gallery in response to its most recent Open call exhibition ‘Home’.

Cupola is reeling from a huge response to its latest open call exhibition. This year’s theme for the selected seasonal exhibition is ‘Home’ and it seems to have struck a cord with artists. The original call out when posted on social media reached well in excess of 40,000 views, which is unusually high for the gallery. Subsequent posts were also widely shared, creating thousands more views, which resulted in higher than usual submissions from the UK, plus many from Europe and further afield.

“Selecting work for this exhibition has been extremely challenging due to the high number of excellent quality submissions received. We are going to keep in touch with many artists who could not be accommodated for this exhibition as we are keen to show their work in the future. We have challenged ourselves with the number and diversity of artists selected but know that this will delivery a stunning, exciting and immersive experience for our visitors throughout the coming festive season.”

Karen Sherwood, Director, Co-Curator & Founder

Artists were invited to respond to the title of ‘Home’ and encouraged to consider possible interpretations including domestic space, family, memory, belonging, and identity, shelter, comfort, and place. Artists were welcome to respond in a literal, abstract, personal or universal manner.

“We have been blown away by the response.  I only wish I could get into my office now they have all arrived!” Graham Shapley, Co-Curator & Manager.

73 artists were selected from the Open call in addition to a number of invited artists. From new graduates to established artists across all media. Work to lift the spirits, raise a smile, rekindle old memories, challenge or simply enjoy in terms of form and shape or the skill of the craft.
