MOY MACKAY
My Colourful Scotland
Rural Scottish Landscapes in Felt & Stitch
July 2nd – July 26th 2025
Mackay, who studied at the Glasgow School of Art, has pioneered and established a style of ‘felted painting’ for which she has become internationally renowned.
Using merino fleece fibres and stitch in a painterly way, her creative process explores combining traditional craft methodology with a fine art aesthetic, creating a very personal and innovative approach to visual expression.
The Exhibition will showcase 20 new paintings depicting Scottish landscapes in Moys distinctive style, which reflects place and season through an atmospheric and vibrant kaleidoscope of colour, texture and detail.
A large crate of paintings has already been shipped off to Seoul and Moy will be following shortly in time for the Exhibition Private View.
She said “The gallery owner who commissioned the exhibition was struck by the originality of my work and the fact that the viewer cannot initially discern that the images are created using fibre not paint.
My work is very distinct from traditional South Korean art and I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to exhibit in Seoul and promote the beauty of Scotland to a new audience.”
Edinburgh born Moy Mackay is an award winning artist and best selling author selling over 60,000 books in 5 different languages to date.
Mackay’s work hangs in private collections worldwide and has worked and exhibited nationally and internationally including in the USA, Canada, Australia, Norway and Sweden.
She is internationally renowned for the unique felt painting technique that she pioneered and has been featured in publications and on TV, including Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year
“Moy’s passionate use of colour and the deep texture created by felting are what draw me to her work. I also like the way that she concentrates on her surroundings for her subject matter – her work is very free.” Kaffe Fassett
“Painting with merino fibres and stitch, Moy creates vibrantly hued, textured textile landscapes, which resonate with rich colour and vitality in a truly magical way.” Jo Hall, Textile Artist Magazine
“Moy Mackay can rest assured that she has shown the world that fibre and felting, in her hands, rightly deserve a place at the high table of art.” Kathleen Soriano, Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year Judge.
